D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) and Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced several new initiatives today aimed at combating gun crimes, including one encouraging residents to submit to voluntary searches of their homes in exchange for amnesty if the residents have illegal guns or drugs.“If we come across illegal contraband, we will confiscate it,” Lanier said. “But amnesty means amnesty. We’re trying to get guns and drugs off the street.”
All seized guns will be tested to see whether they have been used in criminal activity. If they have, police may initiate a criminal investigation, Lanier said.
The program will begin March 24 in the Washington Highlands area of Southeast Washington, where officers will go door to door asking residents for permission to search their homes. It will then expand to other areas of the city.

Who the fuck in their right mind would consent to this? I mean what happens if you refuse? Probably they come back with warrants and no amnesty, for what that is worth.
Seems they got this brilliant idea from Boston’s Safe House Bullshit. People have no fucking clue. These folks will bitch about their bags getting searched at the airport but will volunteer to have their homes violated? What the hell kind of logic is that?
Under the experimental program, dubbed “Safe Homes,” teams of police officers assigned to Boston’s public schools will hunt for leads on youths believed to have guns. Tips might come from neighbors, or even parents or guardians, who are often fearful of their own children. Three plainclothes officers and a clergyperson or community activist will show up at the youth’s home. The officers will ask parents to sign a form allowing the search of the home, including the child’s room. Weapons found in the child’s possession will be seized, and no charges will be filed unless the weapon is linked to a violent crime. “This is an interaction between human beings, where common sense will prevail,” Edward Davis, Boston’s police commissioner, told TIME.
I am sure these seems like no big deal to these folks, but this is how it all starts… and they call the Right, Fascist.

oh, fuck this .. this harkens back to the dare of pulling up in front of a texan’s home in a Volvo, declaring you are from the government and am here to collect your guns..with the castle doctrine having been enacted as of Sept 1st, 2007, they would be staring down the business end of my legally concealed weapon until they voluntarily removed themselves from my property…
I lived in the D.C. area and if any place EVER needed legally concealed weapons, this is the place. I was the “victim” (although both times I cause pre-mature evacuation of bowels to the perps) of 2 attempted car jackings. I carried illegal off-base back then because of the area…
I agree with the “unless linked to violent crime” angle but even so, I am a staunch supporter of all amendments and as such, this is some bona fide bullshit that they are even considering it. I remeber the voluntary “brings your guns to us and we’ll give you $100” drives and that’s a good thing..this is just too fucking far out there…

I think we Texans need to start buying more property so when the masses start fleeing to the last bastion of liberty (Texas) there is nothing left for them to buy and live in.

I noticed in this story that they didn’t say they would go house to house in Georgetown (which has a lot of lawyers and white people), but Washington Highlands, which is one of the poorest areas of the city.
I may be real irked at my own party right now, but there’s no way I’ll vote for democrats. This is why.

When I was in the Army I was over in Europe alot. Does not take a genius to see what a gun less society looks like. So I guess that precludes libs.
