Demure is Overrated!

New poll shows Americans do not approve of the feds bailing out mortgage holders and disapprove even stronger on bailing out the banks who gave the loans. Amen.
If you are stupid enough to let a lender when he says you can afford a 300k house on your 80k a year income then you deserver what you get. If you are a bank and are stupid enough to bet on the housing market staying strong you are an even bigger bunch of idiots.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of Americans say that the federal government should not help out homeowners who borrowed more than they could afford. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 29% disagreed and believed that federal action is appropriate. Seventeen percent (17%) are not sure. There is even stronger opposition to federal help for banks that made bad loans. By a 4-to-1 margin (61% to 15%) Americans reject that approach to resolving the current mortgage crisis.
Whether it’s bailing out the banks or helping homeowners, Democrats are more supportive of federal action. Still, most Democrats (53%) oppose federal help for banks that made bad loans. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of Republicans are opposed along with 64% of those not affiliated with either major party.

I don’t feel sorry for those that were greedy and bought too much house and now can’t afford the ARM that they signed up for. You deserved to be burned – make sure you turn in the leased Hummer you had parked in the driveway, too. Assholes. There were a bunch of those around here. They’ve pretty much cleared out of my neighborhood.
I do feel bad for the ignorant that were abused by predatory mortgage brokers and lured by no money down 100% financing and the hope of finally owning a home. A lot of these folks are uneducated – at least in real estate – and were duped. I really think that the mortgage brokers and realtors that worked the 110% and more loans (also the jacked up property values) with the ARM’s and the kickbacks, etc. should go to jail. I’ve seen all kinds of shady stuff going on from the same people over and over. My sister is a very successful Realtor in our area and it irks me to no end that these sleazebags give Realtors a bad name. I know how hard she works for her clients – I used to be her assistant. The creeps have the general public convinced that all Realtors are do-nothing crooks. They don’t just look at pretty houses all day.
Agreed. I always think about this with new builds and mortgage brokers more than realtors. The builders who tell you they will build you all this with just 1500 down to hold the house and some 110% loan etc.
Still, the ideal we are bailing them out pisses me off. Folks making their mortgages are going to pay the price for it as well as the taxpayers.
Well, as long as they are giving hand-outs I got a bar tab down at the “Suds and Bratwurst” that needs to be taken care of post haste. Betsy, the cute little waitress there, yeah, she can be a real bitch about that kind of thing—and well, you know, ever since that one summer night back in ‘04 when we had a bit too much to drink….
Well, I never did call her like I said I would so it’s been rather dicey since then…. so, if anyone could help a brother out…
;-)
I don’t particularly agree with the handouts, either. It’s the same kind of thing as the credit card companies that prey on college students. I feel bad for the kids, but I don’t want to pay to get them out of debt.
What I’m really freaked out about is the whole Bear-Stearns deal. They were the clearing company for the firm for which I used to work. I was the liaison between B-S and our firm. Close to home for me.
