As the lone sys admin for a large company, I cannot begin to describe my loathing for Share Point. To make it even worse Exchange Server 2007 now uses Share Point as the Public Folders repository. Microsoft thy name is shit.
I am planning mine as well now. But if you mean by “upgrade” break all to hell, then we are in a “upgrade” as well. But I will at least say I am excited about my move to TS 2008, it is so far a much improved product.
My husband’s job uses sharepoint, and they keep trying to make him the sharepoint go-to guy, largely because he’s generally too nice to refuse do do anything. He’s held his ground so far, though. I think if they actually manage to foist that on him, he’ll quit, retirement be damned.
Cowtipper: That is exactly what I mean. Word of warning. When you upgrade from 2003 to 2007 it doesn’t consolidate your multiple site collections into a single site collection so you have to manually do it. Otherwise the search will not crawl and by manually I mean command line. I have googled and googled but my sysadmin says it is not an option to “consolidate” sites into a single collection on upgrade. so we ended up with something like 200 site collections after migration and none of them see the other. UGH. I must stop….

I happen to work down the street from a Microsoft Support Center. I have some friends who work on the Performance Team. I have sent them a message about the issue you have described. If the have anything positive I will pass it along. It maybe to late to help any now but may be good for future use.
