You Go Mom!

By jen

You know I love a good bit of inspired parenting….

Though if this was in Berkley they would probably have her up on charges of child abuse.

Way to go Mom!

I loved this story.  Mother of the Year.

uh, I mean runner up, next to you Jen.

I wish I had the guts to be this inspired as a parent.

I applaud this Mom as well.  Not nearly as cool as what this mom made her son do, I once had a unique punishment for my daughter.

She was 13 and as some teenagers are inclined to do mouthed off to her mom about something—I forget what.  After some discussion I came up with the following punishment that for a teenager could almost be construed as cruel and unusual.  Unusual I’ll concede but the cruelty was to me not her as you’ll see.
I didn’t ground her, didn’t take anything away.  Instead, for one entire week I went with her everywhere she went.

I mean EVERYWHERE.  I went to school with her and her teacher let me sit in a desk next to her….I went with her to lunch in the cafeteria….to the mall with her friends…everywhere.  Nothing turns a teenage daughter’s world into a living Hell like having her father all up in her business.

She tried for the first day or two to act like it was nothing.  By day 3 extreme mortification had set in. By the time the week was over I had had enough, but kept up the appearance that I was enjoying myself.  Following a 13 year old is not the most fun time for an adult, but I took comfort in knowing it was worst for her.

She’s turning 22 now and stills refers to that week as “The Horror”.  She says the reason she never really became the “rebellious teenager” was because I had threatened the next time it would be 2 weeks and she knew I was crazy enough to do it.
