I can still make sense of your godawful captcha, I must not be that tipsy…

Tonight, I’m finishing off a bottle of Delta Sauvignon Blanc 2007 because it’s not that tasty and I don’t want to feel obliged to have a glass here and there over the next several days.

You’ll want to get your hands on a late harvest Gewurztraminer one day too. Your tongue will thank me. Ha!

In fact, late harvest anything is definitely worth a  go.

Rieslings are not made equal, trust me, they can be dry as opposed to sweet. You’ll want to try a late harvest one of those too.

My all-time fave late harvest Gewurztraminer is from the Three Rivers winery.

Stuff gets pricey because sweeter wines take more work. And darn it, you can’t really drink a little, save it for the next night, drink more, save, etc. Sweet wine tends to go bad faster. Still love ‘em though!

If you really want to treat yourself one day, try an icewine. Or look at the label to see if the residual sugar is labeled too. If they have residual sugar, you’re probably getting a sweeter wine.

I also like reds with a peppery taste/finish. I believe that Marquez de Casa Concha Cabernet is pretty nice – it’s Chilean (Concha y Toro) and we have had really good luck with Chilean wines. Texan winery Cap Rock has some good wines – they used to have a great 2002 special blush, but you can’t find it anymore. Be careful, because they’re not all good.

Also, I like Champagne, but I hate it when it is so dry it tastes like skunky air. I really prefer sweeter sparkling wines like Italian Asti’s, since I generally have a sparkling wine with something like chocolate strawberries or some other dessert. Sparkling Rose’s are also nice – I’ve had a couple of glasses on a friend’s suggestion at dinner a couple of times, but don’t remember what it was – it’s kind of trendy, I think. Then there’s always Cold Duck if you really don’t care about the whole classy thing at all. Actually, if you are just drinking for your own enjoyment, don’t let anyone make fun of your choice. Drink from a box if you like the taste. However, it is fun to learn about wines. I’ve been to a couple of fun, informal tasting parties and it was amazing how you could love a cheap wine and an expensive wine equally for completely different reasons. It doesn’t have to be expensive to be enjoyed. Buy the six-pack special at HEB and try several until you find one you want to stick with.

As far as whites go, I’m particularly fond of Jezebel’s blends.  The name is cool too, ha!  The whites from Woop Woop are pretty decent, too.  Gets my husband lit, anyway.

There is something more civilized about my having two glasses of wine at night as compared to a pair of tequila slammers. 

Honestly, I have not been sleeping well.  Stress, work, etc… i find it just slows me down and makes me a sleepy.  I am a cheap drunk. ;)

I prefer Bourbon, but I drink a lot of Vodka, and if I run out Gin.

Another sweet wine is Japanese Plum wine. You can try a glass at any sushi place.
