You Know What Pisses Me Off? Vol. 3958674932

By jen

When I was a kid growing up cereal boxes were cool.  Not only did they have spiffy stuff in the bottom of the box and cool games to read on the back, but the bag inside was made of this waxed paper and could easily be opened.

I would like to get my hands on the Son of a Bitch who decided these bags needed to be made of tissue thin plastic then heat sealed with not one row seal but like 1000349754 of them.  It is not possible to pull these apart like a bag of chips.

In the old days you could pull them apart like that or just rip off the top.  But nooooooooooo now you try to gingerly peel the seals apart and it either rips through the sides and cereal starts leaking out into the box OR you finally get it to budge and it goes flying like goddamn confetti out of a canon.  BASTARD!  I just want my freakin’ Frosted Flakes in a bowl.  Not in the bottom of the box, not in the air, and not all over the damn counter!

Um…I know this is wasteful and all, but I generally cut the bag open with a pair of scissors, pour the cereal into a gallon ziploc, and then throw away the box and the original bag.  This way I don’t end up with empty boxes of cereal in the cabinet from kids’ snacking hands.  (Just empty bags, LOL!  but at least I can see they’re empty without picking them up and shaking them)

I hadn’t eaten cereal for awhile, so I sort of forgot about this little detail. Probably the new packaging has alot to do with shelf life, i.e., how long it can sit on a market’s shelf.
By the way, I just love visiting your blog!
