Happy Easter: Food, Atonement, and Yoga Pants…

By jen

Happy Easter to everyone and by now you should be suitably full of ham or lamb or something equally holiday-ish.  We had one of those freakin’ spiral cut things I hate so much.  However, I find if you make a syrup of paprika, brown sugar, rum, seasoned salt, and toasted garlic granules then pour it over the pig before you bake it, things are fabulous.  Yay me!  I also made my Death By Mac & Cheese on request along with smothered green beans and deviled eggs.  Yeah we had rice and gravy too, there be Cajuns in this here house, cher.

Mass was good this morning and of course the deacon who gave mass will be ordained in three weeks and gone, meh.  Kids didn’t throw down in church which is always a good thing.  The incense about killed me though I managed to hold off my sneezing fit until the priest was preparing the Host.  This would be a record, btw.  Our church just has two masses on Sundays; 8:30 and 10:30 so I was up and dressed by 7:15 and clicking through the house in my heels waking everyone up.  “Let’s roll, folks!  Mass in an hour!”  Everyone began moaning we wouldn’t get there on time, hah!  I am a motivator.  We were there with fifteen minutes to spare!

It has been a nice day but I am still exhausted from my trip and am still washing the stench of Newark Airport off my skin.  I asked for absolution at Mass today for all the death and pain I wished on personnel of Continental Airlines and the entire staff at Newark International Airport.  I am not sure it was enough, I was pretty irrationally hateful after 14 hours in transit on Monday and nearly 12 hours on the way back Friday.

Had I not been so totally exhausted from Monday’s travel (including something like 4 canceled flights and several hours delay) I would have enjoyed Virginia much more.  The weather was beautiful and the folks at Corporate were great, but I was worn the hell out and didn’t feel human until Thursday and then it was time to pack and go.  I need to try that trip again, on another airline, with another route, and new yoga pants (I burned the pair from this trip in a sacrificial rite earlier this weekend).

Nonetheless, the week was good when it came down to it.  Good company, comfy bed, and some fun between trips to that shithole airport in Newark.  Yeah, I am still bitter…

Happy Easter, Jen. Sorry to hear about your travel woes. Good job getting the kids ready, though. I am impressed.
