Not Too Bad at All…

By jen

Went to the shooting range with Dave in Texas cuz I wanted to learn how to shoot a handgun, like really shoot one.  I got a gun in my closet, obviously I can shoot your ass if you are in my house, but you know what I mean I wanted to shoot big boy guns and stuff.  So he came down like the nice man that he is and let me play with his guns!  Two guns both .45’s if I am not confusing things.  It was hot as fuck at the range so I could be forgetting.  Nonetheless, one was small and the other was the same thing but full size.  As if I need to state this, I liked the big one better!  I could sooooo get use to doing this.  I felt immediately better.  Gun therapy works though I need a/c on the range goddammit!

Here is my target thingie.  The lady that was working at the place said I did very well.  They guy in the stall next to me kept look at me funny like he was either afraid or turned on or both.  When we had to take a break for them to change something out behind the targets and Dave was talking guns with these two other guys the guy looked at me says, “First time?”  I said, “Yes.”  He says, “You started with the big ones, huh?”  I am not sure how to take that.  I said, “Yes, what is the use of a small one?”  and smiled demurely, because you know… i fucking AM demure.

Below is a pic of my targets they wouldn’t let you get them what with all the cross fire and all, you know… :)

wOOt!

jen…you rock.   you blog, bitch whine, shoot and buy super hot shoes.  I share your columns on my facebooik page and everybody loves you.  Keep it up, during dark times we have to keep hope alive and we have to laugh.

Well done ma’am.  That target is fucking deceased!

She’s a quick learner and a steady hand.  I pity da foo that crosses her shit up.

The ex never wanted to have anything to do with guns. I grew up with 3 gunracks in my bedroom.  My son likes to shoot but isn’t a big fan like I am.  The new girlfriend has expressed an interest so I’ll be cluing her in.
I was once asked my position on gun control.  I replied, “Prone.”
The big fan is my daughter. 23 years old, 5’1” and all of 90 lbs and with her 380 can do a 3 second draw and place 6 rounds inside 2 inches at 25 yards.
In her dating life she often takes them to the range for the second date.   She calls it her “Beta Filter” date.   If they react badly to shooting at all there is no third date.   If they shoot but do worse than her and can’t deal with it there is no third date. If they can shoot, better or worse, and can deal with it then there is potential.
I’m worried about the last guy she took there though.   He shot, she shot, she scored better and noticed he seemed a bit upset about it.  When she pressed him on it he finally said the problem seemed to be that his new Glock 9mm had a bit of a floating barrel.  He then asked her to try it a few rounds and see if she recommend either a different grip or stance to improve his aim.
I think she swooned.

yeah, watch out for that one, dad.  YOU might want to take him to the range.  Some quality time and such… a remote range.

I just started learning to shoot (only 2 lessons). I’m kinda enjoying it – but still need to decide whether to purchase a gun and, if so, what type. I did find that I seemed to be drawn towards a 6-shooter (cowgurl in me perhaps?) – Ruger GP100 revolver, 357 mgnum with 4” barrel.

Holy cow! Dave in texas was down?
I wish I had known that! I was at the range yesterday too (Lockhart)!
I am in Austin… we need to all meet up for a shoot!

LOVE IT.
Jen goes shootin’! Woo hoo! Your targets look good; the bullets all stay within a narrow vertical band. This is a great start. Use whatever gun you want; ignore that “too much for a little lady” BS you will hear. As long as the pistol fits your hand you can shoot it well. Recoil is mostly in the mind, so enjoy it, don’t fear it.
Indoor ranges should be air conditioned. Go buy yourself the best hearing protection you can find; muffs and plugs both.
DammitWoman – I’ve had a GP100 for a decade or more. It’s a great pistol. If your hand is a little smaller, Ruger also makes the SP101. Very similar, just a bit smaller. 5 shots vs 6, but with a .357 who ever needs 6 shots? 2 is usually enough. Ruger revolvers sometimes seem a little rough when new, but after you’ve shot them some they smooth right out. And they are really, really tough. They’ll outlast your grandchildren.

Drew – thanx for the info! Funny thing about my handsize – the GP100 would be perfect if it was just a little smaller. I’m gonna check that out.

Woo Hoo – I’m getting “in the know”

Jen – you sooo need to meet up with Melissa! You two would be a “force” to be dealt with!
