I recently changed my diet to a "healthy" one as well-(no dairy)- it's been a challenge to say the least. My best discovery yet-- Daiya Cheese!! non-dairy, super low fat, and it melts! I hate other fake cheeses because they taste too much like soy. But Daiya tastes like the real thing--and they make the best grilled cheese sandwiches, pizzas, and quesadillas. Zpizza ( if there is one in Texas) uses Diaya on their veggie pizza. Also--Earthbalance is the best non-dairy butter. Best of luck to you and your little one!

Some long time friends found out that their daughter had some rare disease that meant she could never eat protein again. Weird, weird, weird. Guess she can't metabolize it or something...don't remember details but do remember too many near death experiences in their family.
Personally, I love butter and do not understand why there have been no butter gods in history...and honestly, any religion that says you can't eat bacon (obvious answer here) or use butter (Hindu) has bad gods. I will pray for your daughter and family that you are able to enjoy the new cuisine. Eventually the government will try to force everyone to eat a certain way, so I guess you get a head start.

Prayers all around - I am too tired of the way too many non-medical people dithering into what should be none of their business and ruining what is the best system in the World.
I am the patient that as soon as they proclaim on high what is wrong with me - goes to the library and Internet and finds out exactly how wrong they are. The disease/condition du jour is usually their diagnosis - and they aren't hitting it right.
Imagine my surprise while in the office to be told one thing - must do this (another 2 appointments - think co-pays and covering what my insurance won't pay) and then they also do another completely different test - walla I get a call three weeks later - everything is fine (but I was on deaths door just 3 weeks ago) - Good thing I did not schedule those extra wasteful appointments. And also a good thing I went to the library and found out how wrong they were.
Medicine by politics - only to be profoundly worse with Obamacare. BTW, American Spectator has a wonderful piece about a convicted murderer scamming Medicare for $596,953 - for 'medical supplies' - With Obamacare - expect this and worse - And imagine how many needy people could have gotten simple basic care for that scam alone.
Best wishes in the coming week & medical issues.

Every time she has to pass the butter, without taking any, you all need to say, "I blame Obama". Fascists like butter, but only when it is passed to THEM after you didn't get any.

Peter:

In my blog post about this, the Epic one coming I will make a point of saying what I say now, the RNs on the ward at Methodist Children's Hospital in san Antonio are probably some of the finest nurses I have ever dealt with. They are wonderful and attentive and extremely proactive. They were amazing with my daughter this time and the first time during a 18 day or so stay. I have written to the hospital that they should use these women/men as a model for the rest of the hospital.

They work hard but never once did i see one exasperated with a request major or as minor as can she get some saltines? All our troubles at the hospital both this time and last (though not as bad) occurred the moment we left the fourth floor ward. I sent a food/fruit basket after we left last time and will probably send those nurses something this time. The actual administration of the hospital is the problem. Politics in the form of a bunch of mini monarchies in the hospital causing kinks in the process is the root of the problem.

I blame Obama, indeed!
I will add Gilly to our Catholic ladies group prayer list - I forgot last night when we had our meeting.
I hope she gets better soon and another attack is averted by the "cheeseless" diet. Life without cheese is so sad to contemplate!
After I had my gall bladder out, the symptoms actually got worse. It's called Post Cholystectomy Syndrome. I never had stones or attacks, just discomfort from a non-functioning, sludgy gallbladder and tubes. I guess I'm lucky I've never gotten pancreatitis. I actually had a gallbladder attack when I was about 12 and that was awful! That poor little angel.

Hi
Sorry about your daughter. Good luck. I am a nurse. Somethings the medical establishment seems not to let one know, which one should know are patient's rights. They are important. Here are some patients rights, and you the mom have these too.
Right to refuse treatment, sometime the treatment is worse than the illness.
Right to refuse medication, what good a pain meds if you can't shit.
Right to fire your doctor, this dose get results, but be careful, the replacement one may not be as good. Better to ask the staff, what they think, watching their face and rolling eyes than their mouth.
Right to review your medical chart. Ask to see all of them, from every lab report to every consult, review them all. This is most important. Yes I believe you can read and with the internet, determine, at least understand what is going on. Don't let them say "I will let the doctor know", but you say its my right. Knowledge is power, doctor speak is not that hard. When reading write those question, these question if not written to go away quickly. Upon next visit, pull the list, ask away.
This is what I remember, but for a better lists, just Goggle patient's rights.
Also the reason that nurse are be crunched is not so much of retirement but of Obama and the economy. Elective surgeries are off, because when you loose a job, you loose your insurance, some think that its better keep those funds in the bank, thank used for co-pay. Even for those who have insurance, it never cover all. No elective surgeries, lower hospital incomes, causing hospital to lower cost, causing lower staff level.
I must defend the nurses, they are truly blessed. I became a nurse after retirement from Nuclear Engineering. I figure how hard could it be? I have a master in nuclear. However to my surprise it was the hardest degree to obtain. What I found out later it was harder just being a nurse. At work, they never stop, always someone needs this or that of which there is not, or worse some family bitching and demanding, yet they swallow hard and go on. Treat all nurse as special, for they are. I can't believe how little they are paid for all their responsibility, retained knowledge, and required physical labor. Because of these hardships, they must truly love their patients. Be kind to them, they save more lives than all the others.
Sincerely yours,
RN Peter
PS I pray hard and will pray for her.

I was writing a big long thing about how nurses are screwed by hospitals and unions, but after ranting for about 15 min I felt better. So I'll sum it up with, "IF IT ISN'T OBAMBI'S FAULT NOW, IT WILL BE IN THE FUTURE!"

You're exactly right. Most hospitals are 20% **or more** below their recommended staffing levels RIGHT NOW because of Boomer nurses retiring; and Obamacare will have them quitting en masse. I personally would rather drive a truck than work as a nurse under Obamacare, and I'm not alone.
