Holiday Crazy

By jen

Today I used one of my floating holidays and guilted a friend/coworker to come and help me get organized.  Let me preface this by saying that this young lady is basically the glue that keeps my projects on schedule.  We are to the point of completing each others sentences and she knows my expressions to the point where she looks  at me as I sit in the cubical with a million things I inherited as PM and she says, “What are you looking for?  You have that look.”  I say what it is she finds it.  I say, “We need a new task list”  She says, “already have a working one…”  I task her and never think about it again because I know she will get it done.  All these are amazing qualities in a team member and very rare.  To make it simple extraordinary she is all of 22 years old.  Amazing work ethic, amazing attitude (she is an OCD bitch like me at work), and she is just fucking hilarious.  I would like to say “Bravo!” to her parents, she is a gem.  I am thinking of changing her title to “Keeper of Jen’s Sanity”.  She also informed me I need a support group because no one needs as many small appliances as I have and she said that it was fucking pathological that I have like 5 crock pots.  I culled down to two..

Last thing we did before she left was put my enormous bird in its salty bath.  She says it was the most disturbing thing she has ever seen done to a bird, but I told her it was worth the work.  Salt, juices, water, brown sugar, a bottle of Reisling and a bunch of herbs… how can it not be outstanding?

I am freakin’ exhausted and need a bath.  Folks are on their way here and I am quite certain I have forgotten something I need for dinner tomorrow.  Thanksfully HEB is open until 2pm tomorrow!  Did I mention I have organized kitchen cabinets?  Outstanding!  Santa will be good to Sarah this year!  Go Sarah! /end exaltation of young co-working.

Tomorrow menu:

  • Turkey goodnes

  • Cornbread sausage and oyster stuffing goodness

Jen…enjoy your thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving!

That turkey sounds very tasty – I am glad that you appreciate your young protege (I’m too tech-no stupid to do accents) – it was the most demoralizing aspect of my years in the ‘office clerk/reception/staff’ – and the few ‘good girl pats’ I got were savored for months.
I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving – must go prepare some stuffing and rolls – to get my meal out of the starting gate.

Very happy thanksgiving to you and your family, Jen.

Ok…I have to agree that 5 crock pots is a bit excessive.

Your Turkey Day layout/buffet pics last year were great !....I wanted to drive right over for a few bites.
:-D

Have a great thanksgiving!

Love Dawn and family

what’s wrong with 5 crock pots?    of course, HRH gave me crap for even wanting one,  but now i have two, so we’re getting somewhere on the issue.  %-)
as for the mac & cheese, i’d love to trade recipes with you, just to compare your death dealer to mine…..  we took a batch to a pot luck party one year, and were never invited back, because the host, a professional chef, had to keep telling all the “industry” people that the dish everyone was describing to him as the best thing he’d ever served was actually the product of the beer drinking redneck in the corner…...
hope your meal was memorable!

I’d like more details on the brined birdie! Lots of different recipes out there but I’ve yet to try one.  Perhaps yours would be a good place to start?
And I don’t have even 1 crock pot. How am I going to make a good pernil indoors if I don’t have a crock pot? Oh Santa …

How did we end up brining our turkey with the same recipe, right down to the riesling?
I’m starting another one tomorrow, that turkey was gone by midday Friday.
And next year, ask me for my drunken sweet potatoes recipe.  Jack Daniels is some good stuff.

Jack Daniels is damn good stuff…I want that recipe!

I have no doubt your sweet potato balls are good but I must say that my salty balls are better.

Everything ok Jen?

2nd Brad’s concern. No post in …  more than 3 weeks? That isn’t like you.
Prayers that you and family are all Ok and just crazy busy.

Good to hear from you….enjoy your vacation and I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !

Looking forward to some rants.
I see that the HealthCare debacle bill just passed a key test vote that they had at 1am DC time this morning….about one hour ago.

I also got an email stating that Kay Bailey Hutchison voted WITH Reid Friday night. I’d say that seals her defeat in the governor race.
Stupid turncoat.
