Look, I know you men have it difficult. Women are just about impossible to understand, much less please. In a post-feminist society, you never know exactly what you should be doing. Women are bloody picky, I know we are. It can be scary, too, when women freak out about what appear to be benign issues. And men who do their best to be respectful, female-positive humans, I salute you, I do.

My friend Bruce, the one who I once thought was basically me with a penis, has broken my heart today.  I am not sure there is any hope left in the world after our last conversation.  This guy is a man’s man.  Sports, hunting, conservative, great dad, devoted husband, all those delightful things.  So you will understand my devastation when I tell you how he spent his day…

He was scrap booking with his wife!   For fuck’s sake!  Is there no sanity left in the world?

I admit a certain pathological disdain for all things scrap book related.  I will probably piss off my three female readers when I say, “Scrap booking is fucking stupid.”  I am not talking about photo albums.  I am not talking about books detailing the life of your child; milestones, accomplishments etc.  I am talking about taking those time honored traditions and fucking putting fuu fuu paper with ribbons and little plastic sparkly thingies everywhere around them.  Ugh.

The industry is brilliant really.  Right up there with freakin’ pet day spas and doggie couture.  In fact it is exactly like those things.

Examples:  (I am going to be a bitch here… bear with me.)

Wtf is that?  Is there a child in there somewhere?  Probably, but who the fuck can tell because of all the fucking buttons and ribbons.  (I am actually hiving up at this point.)

What a fantastic picture of a beautiful child with her toy and blanket.  Imagine how amazing that would look if you could actually see the picture!  This would be stunning in a really nice leather bound or handmade paper book with pretty picture corners on black paper.  You would see those eyes that appear to be full of life.

I think there are actually some pictures in there somewhere.  The worst thing about all this god forsaken floof?  You cannot actually look at these things very often because they will fall apart if you handle them too much!

Dear God the amount of money you can drop doing this stuff!  Have a look at the OCD enabling suppliers!

You womenfolk want to do this?  Fine!  Have at it!  But for all that’s holy, leave the men out of it!  The idea of Bruce using that little clipper thingie that makes the corners round makes me itch.  The visual of this man using special fru fru scissors with changeable blades to get really neato edges on paper makes me want to set something on fire!

I can only sit here and hope that he did this for some sort of sexual compensation, but even then I am not sure the price was worth it.   The most horrible thing of all?  He said he had a good time doing it.

Ugh…

I am thinking about offering a reward for the return of Bruce’s balls.  Seriously, if I didn’t have such great affection for this man I would have been much harder on him.  For God’s sake, Bruce… next time just go shoe shopping with her and hold her purse while she tries on 80 pairs of the same shoe!  At least that way you are in possession of your balls, even if they are in their new home, HER PURSE!

P.P.S to Bruce:  You know I love you, shit head.  There is no end to the amount of shit you will hear about this.  I suggest you go kill a wild boar with your bare hands to redeem your man cred…

P.P.P.S. to Reader:  I invited Bruce to write a few things on this blog about 6 months ago.  I am thinking this might get him motivated to defend himself.  Maybe?

AP has already noted Obama’s statement that he would have left Trinity United had Wright’s repeated rhetoric not escaped his notice, but Geraghty caught Obama minimizing Wright in a way that contradicts Obama’s own statements earlier in the campaign and in his book, Dreams from My Father (emphasis mine):

“I talked to [Wright] after this episode. I think he’s saddened by what’s happened. I feel badly that he has been characterized in just this one way. But he was my pastor. I think people overstate this idea of mentor or spiritual adviser. He was my pastor.”

People tend to overstate the idea of mentor or spiritual adviser? I wonder why? Could it be because Obama himself emphasized it at the beginning of his campaign?

How about some taxation goodness?  God knows I am not paying nearly enough in taxes…

 The Los Angeles Times notes the love affair between Barack Obama and taxes continues unabated. In an interview with CNBC in New York last night, Obama promised to eliminate the Bush tax cuts and hike taxes on those making as little as $75,000 per year.

Obama wants it both ways. He wants the Left to believe that he will start pulling more money out of the economy for a big slate of government programs, while he wants the middle class to believe that all of these programs won’t cost them anything — and meanwhile, his options remain “open”. It sounds more like “I’m making this up as I go along.”

Now Jerry W is in retirement and has had to cancel his planned appearances in Florida and Texas due to security concerns.  This is not doubt because us crazy southerners do not understand his right to be an American Hating Crack Pot.  Nonetheless he is planning to move into his new home currently under construction.

A two-week FOX News investigation, however, has uncovered where Wright will be spending a good deal of his time in retirement, and it is a far cry from the impoverished Chicago streets where the preacher led his ministry for 36 years.

FOX News has uncovered documents that indicate Wright is about to move to a 10,340-square-foot, four-bedroom home in suburban Chicago, currently under construction in a gated community.

While it is not uncommon for an accomplished clergyman to live in luxury, Wright’s retirement residence is raising some questions.

“Some people think deals like this are hypocritical. Jeremiah Wright himself criticizes people from the pulpit for middle classism, for too much materialism,” said Andrew Walsh, Associate Director of the Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life with Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

“So he’s entitled to be tweaked here. So the question really is, how unusual is this? Somewhat unusual,” he said.

Tweaked?  Well the other little nugget about this house other than the obvious point he is totally adhering to his rejection of “middleclassism and materialism” and skipping right up to Upperclassism in his 93% white neighborhood.

The article goes on to mention a ten million dollar line of credit was acquired by the church and a 1.3 million dollar mortgage for the house itself.  Whatever will they need the other ten million for?  We will never know, folks.  Why?  Because they are a not for profit church who doesn’t have to report what they do with their money.  Woo woo.  I am sooo in the wrong line of work.

Something tells me he is going to be a big hit on the board of that Homeowners Association.  Why didn’t he move to Hyde Park with the rest of Barry O’s friends? 

There is this disgusting trend in America these days, not just in the workforce, education, and politics, but in parenting as well. The celebration of mediocrity.

The bosses who walk around stroking the egos of their employees and constantly telling them how great a job their doing, when in fact they are just doing what they are paid to do.

Teachers and schools rewarding students with parties because everyone did their homework for an entire month!

Adjusting perfect attendance policies to “missing X number of days or less per year” is not perfect attendance.

Politicians bragging about all the bills they pushed to the floor and legislation they sponsored. Making a big deal over the hours they worked to get a particular issue addressed. Is that not their job? (more…)

While hitting my Google Feeds this morning I hit BMEWS to see what Drew was talking about this morning and found this entry. I have been pondering how to address this whole issue without sounding like a hysteric with too much coffee in her system so I decided after reading his entry that I need to just do it. So here it goes…

Barry O’s speech accomplished a few things this week and his comments since have brought to light a few more attitudes he seems to harbor. Whether he was addressing race to cover his ass about Jerry “Goddamn America” Wright, which is what any thinking person in this country believes, or if he was just moving up the date on a speech he had planned to deliver about race in this country, one thing is certain… he succeeded in stirring up a racial shit storm.

Yes, his approval ratings have suffered as a result of the eloquent but shameless rationalizing of his relationship with Rev. Wright. That said, Obama did manage to take the attention away from his startling ineptitude when it comes to the war in Iraq and national security in general. Is it a good trade off? Time will tell, but for the moment the country is talking about race.
